So... here are some of the options you are facing with a budget of $750-$850 US in NYC:
- 6 floor walk up with show in the kitchen, toilet in the closet and kitchen sink doubles duty as the bathroom sink (Brooklyn)
- no kitchen, no living room, living with a 50 y.o Argentinian dancer who doesn't care to know your name or sex but dosen't want any drunken nights or "hannky panky" - oh, and bed bugs (Manhattan)
- a 25min train ride from the city, living in a neighborhood straight out of Westley Snipes, "Do the right thing" backed up to a major highway (Brooklyn)
- an interior room with no air, no window, kitchen is part of the living room (Brooklyn)
- Your roommate has to walk through your room to get to the kitchen and bathroom and your room dosen't fully shut off from the kitchen, there's more like makeshift separators (Brooklyn)
- You have to walk through your roomates bed room to get to the kitchen and bathroom OR (I love this one), you can go outside the apartment, which is also the same entrance as the funeral parlor just below... yes, you share an entrance, with the funeral parlor. (Brooklyn)
OR
- 2 bathrooms for four people, a private bedroom, steps from EVERY TRAIN in the city, roof aces, a dish washer & washer/dryer, a living room with a bed for guests across the street from a huge shopping center including a target super store!
yes... this is where I'll call home please and thank you very much!
Come and visit me in Park Slope...

Mutek in Montreal
2009 Mutek Festival
I have been a long fan of this festival since I found it in 2006.
It's an international electronic art and music festival.
My favorites this year included ATOM by Monolake a.k.a Robert Hanke and Christopher Bauder. This art instillation is hard to read about but recommended for the personal viewing:
My personal favorite set of the festival was Moderat = Modeselector and Apparat from Berlin. Other really amazing performances by Ghislain Poirier from Montreal and Modern Deep Left Quartet a bunch of dudes from Canada. I unfortunately missed all the events Saturday (Picknick and Nocture 4) So I have no input regarding those performances.
For a far better rendition of what went down at the festival, check out the Mutek posting on TJ Norris's Blog.
